5 Tips for Growing Out a Pixie Cut

We all know that cutting your hair is a big commitment. Not so much for the haircut even as the aftermath when you decide to grow your hair back out. Awkward bowl cuts, shaggy short hair looks, and so many other phases of the process haunt every girl’s dreams when considering the big chop. However, let me ease your worries just a tad whether you are considering a pixie cut or have already taken the leap.

I have some tips for how to grow out a pixie cut that will help ease the awkwardness. Whether your hair takes a long time to grow or is very quick to return to long locks, the in-between phases doesn’t have to be unpleasant. Stick to these tips to have an easy yet appealing look every step of the way during the pixie grow out.

Tips and Tricks

1. Styling

When it comes to pixie cuts, styling is everything. Try curling your hair to give it some extra volume if you worry about it falling flat throughout the day. Perhaps you want to leave it straight and slick it back. The possibilities are endless as far as styling.

Styling does not have to mean heat either! There are plenty of overnight curling options or styles using headbands, bobby pins, or half up half down looks that will help you navigate the growing out process. Don’t be afraid to get creative and try a new look.

2. Products

Another huge factor is going to be what types of products you use. This will also depend on the type of hair you have, but rule of thumb, look into gels, texturizing spray, hairspray, and oil to give the necessary nourishment for growth.

Texturizing spray was my favorite product while growing my hair out. This gives you more volume to work with and doesn’t require loads of teasing, my arch nemesis. Spray or shake out a bit onto your roots throughout your hair and watch your hair plump up on its own.

3. Vitamins

Something that many people forget that is crucial to growing out your hair is the proper vitamins. This means a hair growth vitamin. These are typical labelled hair and nail vitamins. There are loads out there, and some work better than others, so trial and error is your best bet.

4. Hair Salon Visits

I know it can be tempting to steer clear of the hair stylist while waiting for your hair to grow, but this is the worst thing you can do if you are aiming for length. Frequent and proper trims and shaping to your hair will be the major difference between awkward phases and fun hairstyles in every stage.

Plus trims are going to keep your hair healthy, so it can grow as quickly as possible. Stay in communication with your stylist to figure out how often you need to be going in for a trim.

5. Alternatives

Still not in love with your look or just having an off day where you don’t feel like styling your hair? You can always grab a hat or even a wig for the day. While this isn’t an answer for all scenarios, it can get you through a bad hair day or two.

For a dressed down say, grab a baseball cap or beanie. If you’re trying to look a bit nicer, grab a large brim round hat. This can fit nicer occasions without being off putting. As far as wigs, be sure to invest in a proper fitting wig and higher quality.

Unfortunately, wigs are not a place where you can cut corners, so it will need to be an investment on your end. This also means wig holders, wig products and wig caps. You have to commit to the entire process if you are going to try a wig.

Conclusion

The growth process does not need to be as scary as we have made it. Hopefully now that you are a bit more equipt, you won’t be afraid to give your hair a big chop. You only live once, so might as well do it. After all it is just hair and it will grow back. Live a little and let yourself take a risk! Now it’s just a better informed one.
