With such a makeup driven world, it can be easy to get caught up in the idea that makeup is vital to looking beautiful. The beauty industry has made sure of it through constant reminders of how you should look and be. However, this could not be farther from the truth. Natural beauty is radiant. While there are huge perks to makeup and its abilities, it is not the end all be all of beauty. It is more than possible to look good with no makeup.
Today, I am going to give you a few tips I have learned over the years on how to look pretty without makeup. Prettier, at least. We are already pretty beauties! Hopefully, by the end, you will have confidence attacking the day with your makeup free look.
1. Skin Care
I always say that a good makeup look is really all about skincare. Although we are heading for a no makeup look today, this still runs true. Each person’s perfect skincare routine will look different as there are different needs for each person, although there should be a general consensus of a cleanser, exfoliator, and moisturizer regardless.
These are the baseline for a proper routine. For oilier skin types, add in something to get rid of that extra oil such as a Retinol, and for drier skin types, try adding in a serum for an extra kick of moisture. You can also choose cleansers and moisturizers catered to your skin type for the best results.
While having clear skin is not the equivalent to beauty, it can help boost your confidence to rock a no makeup look. Like anything, persistence is key, so stick to your routine and watch how your results improve over time.
2. Natural Features
Your natural beauty is what matters the most with or without makeup. However, there are ways to accentuate your natural beauty. The main things to focus on are your hair, teeth, eyebrows, and mouth. When you learn how to maximize these features, your no makeup look will wow.
First, get a good hair care routine to achieve luscious locks. This means learning your hair type and finding good products and styling routines to help your natural hair flourish. Your hair helps shape your face and is your greatest accessory regardless if you are wearing makeup or not.
Next, try a teeth whitener to help your smile shine. I like to use a whitener pen. Typically, you use these for ten days, then give your teeth a break. Stay away from red wine, teas, coffee, and any other liquid that could stain your teeth, as the whitener will make your teeth prone to staining easier.
For eyebrows, let your natural brows grow out and decide if you want to try some form of eyebrow treatments such as tinting, brow lamination, or other options. This will give your face a standout centerpoint, and let’s be honest. Everyone looks better when they have good eyebrows.
Lastly, add a lip scrub into your routine. This will prevent your lips from drying out or looking crusty. We don’t need any of that in our no makeup look.
3. Hydration
No matter what, your skin is always in need of hydration. This gives you the shine and brightness that we often try to mimic with makeup. This can take a few different forms. Like I already mentioned, having a good moisturizer is the first step. However, you can also add in face masks once a week to give an extra boost of moisture and a natural glow.
Don’t forget to drink water as well. This is not only good for your skin, but also your health. Most people are not drinking enough water to stay hydrated throughout the day. This has loads of effects on your body, so try to aim for half of your weight in ounces of water a day.
4. Sunscreen
While it is perfectly acceptable and encouraged to have no makeup days, it is not encouraged to have days without sunscreen. Rain or shine, winter or summer, you should always have sunscreen on. The sun is always working hard, so you have to work even harder. Sunscreen protects your skin from sun damage which can lead to fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, and more. You can thank me when you are 50 and still look 30.
5. Confidence
Last but most definitely not least, confidence makes all the difference in the world. If you don’t feel good in your own skin, that will show through, and vice versa. Trust that you are enough just as you are, and that will shine through to others. Not to mention, confidence is contagious. Spread that with those around you and watch how much better each of you feel when you stop trying to live up to any standard other than your own.
