What Is My Face Shape? How To Determine The Shape of Your Face

Face shape is a huge factor in the overall appearance of each of us. While we are all beautiful in our own ways and should own our unique qualities, finding your face shape can be a great help in ways to style your hair, how to do your makeup, and loads of other everyday things that can vary wildly.

Today, I am going to explain each face shape in detail to give you a bit of an overview to help you determine what your face shape is. By the end of it, my goal is that you can know a bit more about yourself as well as be equipped with some tools to accentuate your best features. Let’s get to it!

1. Square

A very unique face shape. Square faces are pretty easy to determine. Examine the length and width of your face. If they are even, you have a square face. Also, a square face has cheek bones that line up with their jaw line. Some example of square faces are Sandra Bullock, Demi Lovato, and Angelina Jolie. All of that to say if your face is square, you are in good company.

The biggest difference for a square face and other shapes is that other shapes have a much shorter width of their face. This makes your face seem longer horizontally and can appear less dainty but very eye-catching in the best way.

2. Heart

The complete opposite, heart shaped faces and extremely dainty and soft. Heart shaped faces have a larger forehead and a shorter jaw line width wise. They also can have a widow’s peak which adds the full heart shape effect. Some celebrities in this category are Kourtney Kardashian, Lucy Hale, and Reece Witherspoon.

Heart shaped faces also have a pointier chin typically. This gives their jaw a strong angle to it. Comparing length and width, it is not a dramatic difference, but they do have a slighter longer face than a wide one.

3. Round

Round faces are another easy shape to pick out. They have, you guessed it, a round face. Shocking, I know. Going from top to bottom, the forehead should be rounded rather than straight across. The cheekbones should be the most prominent area and protrude in width, and the chin should round out and be shorter in length.

Some celebrities in this category are Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, and Chrissy Teigen. Once again, great company. Because of an already round bone structure, round faces may appear more chubby than other shapes and have less noticeable features, especially in the jawline. However, this is a great face shape that can pull off lots of hairstyles and looks.

4. Oval

Another shape is an oval face shape. THis face shape puts you in the company of our queen Beyonce, so consider yourself blessed. Other famous oval faces include Bella Hadid and Rihanna. This shape has a much longer length of the face than width. There will be a bit smaller width of the china and forehead, like the round face, but also a longer forehead and chin. This is the big differentiating characteristic.

This shape looks great with bangs, as it can help conceal their large forehead while not overpowering their strong cheekbones. As a member of the oval face crowd, this is a very versatile face shape to have. Screw the mean boys that made fun of our 5 heads in middle school. We are rocking them now.

5. Diamond

Lastly, diamond face shapes are a bit more unique. It can be a tad more difficult to self examine diamond face shapes as many people mistake them for a heart or square face shape. Some people also call this shape the rectangle face shape.

Think of this as the round face shape but with a point to it. The forehead and chin are smaller than the cheekbones. However, the forehead and chin do not round off. They actually come to a prominent point like the heart shaped chin. This is another one of the smaller faces overall and has the potential for sharp jawlines. Some celebrities in the category include Anna Kendrick, Megan Fox, and Tyra Banks.

Conclusion

Like with anything, we are all unique and might not fit exactly into one specific box. There are people that have unique qualities of multiple face shapes, so don’t be discouraged if this is you. Uniqueness is meant to be celebrated. However, I hope this gave you a bit more clarity on categories that you could relate to. This can give you a starting point for searching tips and tricks on your face shape in loads of areas.
