Having glamorous eyelashes consists of a few options: eyelash extensions, layering on tons of mascara, or gluing on falsies. These options can be expensive, time-consuming, or damage your natural lashes.
Plus, no one wants to deal with messy glue or calculating the perfect placement of the false eyelash. For some, it can be near impossible to get it right the first time around. Having to re-attempt the application process leads to frustration and your natural lashes clumped with glue.
What if we told you there is an alternative that replaces lash glue for magnets? The idea of using a magnet near your eyes can seem weird at first, but the reality is that magnetic lashes offer a solution to glamorous lashes without the mess.
Read on to learn how to put on magnetic eyelashes and if they are right for you.
Step 1: Prep Your Eyes
One of the first things you should do before applying magnetic lashes is apply your eyeshadow (optional) and curl your natural lashes. You don’t want to add eyeshadow after the falsies have been placed because it’s likely you’ll get makeup on them. This will dull the final look making your lashes look dirty. Curling your natural lashes helps create a solid base for the magnets to stick to, so be sure you don’t skip this step.
Step 2: Apply Mascara
Apply mascara before you apply the falsies. This will give your natural lashes more volume making them look more natural when the falsies are applied. Don’t ever apply the mascara directly on the magnetic lashes, as this can ruin them and wind up looking clumpy.
Step 3: Apply the Lashes
There are a few ways to apply your magnetic lashes. The method you use depends on the type of lashes you’re using. Some brands require you to sandwich your natural lashes in between two magnetic strips. Others require you to apply magnetic eyeliner for them to stick. If you’re a beginner, we suggest you start with a kit that uses magnetic eyeliner.
We’ll go through both methods below.
- – Eyeliner Method. Shake the bottle of magnetic eyeliner to ensure everything is mixed together. Apply the eyeliner at the lash line. You can outline your eyes as simple or dramatic as you’d like. Simply make sure there is enough liner for the magnet to grab on. Let it dry for 20 seconds before applying the falsies.
- – Sandwich Method. These kits come with two magnetic strips which serve as a blanket for your lashes. Sandwiching your lashes between the two strips offers a fuller, more voluminous look. We recommend this method for experienced users since it can take some practice to nail down the placement of the magnetic strips.

With practice, putting on magnetic eyelashes will be a breeze.
Step 4: Apply Lashes
After you decide on the method you’re going to use, apply the fake eyelashes. There are a couple of ways you can do so:
- Using your fingers. This works best for the sandwich method. Place a fake eyelash on top of your lashes as close to the lash line as you can. Take the bottom lash and place it underneath. Regardless of the type of lashes you’re using, make sure you have steady hands and use a mirror when applying your falsies.
- Using an applicator. If you’re using the eyeliner method, we recommend using a lash applicator to avoid smudging the eyeliner with your fingers. Begin from the inner corner of your eyes. Press the lash down and work your way to the outer corner. The falsie should stick to the magnetic liner.

Step 5: Remove Them
At this point, your falsies should be on beautifully. Go out and enjoy your day, show them off, but be sure you remove them when you get back home. Forgetting to do so will not only damage your new falsies but can also be damaging to the health of your natural lashes.
How to remove them? Simply pull them away from the eyelid. You’ll love how easy they are to remove. Using some eye makeup remover, take off the magnetic liner and mascara from your eyes. Then, thoroughly cleanse your skin using a facial cleansing brush.
With the right care, magnetic lashes can be reused up to 40 times! After removing, inspect the magnet. If you notice clumps of eyeliner or mascara, gently scratch it off using your nail. You can also soak a cotton ball and gently rub the magnets to remove any leftover residue.
Are Magnetic Lashes Right For You?
Magnetic falsies have been a huge hit since they came out. However, they are not for everyone.
If you’re someone who wears contacts or has sensitive eyes, magnetic lashes are right for you. Most people with sensitive eyes stay away from falsies because lash glue can quickly irritate the eyes. The same goes for lash extensions. Magnetic lashes won’t cause any of the burning or swelling experienced by people with sensitive eyes.
Now, if you are someone who lives a very active lifestyle and needs falsies that will stay on through thick and thin, perhaps this isn’t the best option for you. Magnetic lashes aren’t very stable and can feel as if they will fall off any minute. They are best for short events or casual hangouts. If you’re going to a wedding, we suggest going with a more secure alternative.
All in all, these types of falsies are very inexpensive. Give them a try to see if they’re right for you!
