Eyelash Tinting: Everything You Need to Know

I don’t know about you guys, but doing my makeup before work every morning isn’t something I have energy for all the time. To look presentable, I throw on some mascara, a little bit of lip gloss, and head out for the day.

It’s for this reason that I’m so into eyelash tinting. I wake up every morning with flawless eyelashes, and after smacking on some gloss I’m ready to take on my day. I’ve been getting my lashes tinted for the past 2 years, and it’s something I plan to continue going forward.

Now, you may have a lot of questions about this process (I know I did). Before you blow up your esthetician’s phone, take a look at this guide. We’ll answer the questions: What is lash tinting? Is eyelash tinting safe? How long does an eyelash tint last? And more!

What is Lash Tinting?

Lash tinting is similar to dying your hair – except it’s for lashes. Your lashes will be darkened making it seem like you’re wearing mascara 24/7. Since lash tints don’t curl, lengthen, or add volume, many people like to get a lash lift along with their lash tint. This means your eyelashes will always be curled and tinted just like you applied a fresh coat of mascara.

What are the Benefits of Lash Tinting?

The main benefits of lash tinting include:

  • Lashes that are fuller, darker, and sometimes longer.
  • You’ll wake up every morning with ready-to-go lashes.
  • Your lashes won’t run when you’re sweating or in the water.
  • The process is super quick and affordable.
  • Your eyes will look more attractive.
  • You no longer have to apply mascara!

Who is a Good Candidate for Lash Tinting?

This cosmetic treatment is for absolutely anyone. Popular candidates are those who have very light eyelashes. It’s also great if you like to be outdoors, wear contact lenses, or go to the gym regularly. Since no mascara is involved, you won’t have makeup running down your face during these activities.

Moreover, if you have a busy job or don’t have time to apply mascara every morning, this treatment is for you. The only people that should probably avoid lash tinting are those with sensitive eyes.

How Long Do Lash Tinting Appointments Take?

Plan to be at your appointment for about 30 minutes. The time varies depending on how fast the lash tech is and where you go. Always be sure to go with a licensed technician for your lash tinting appointment. Some people like to get their eyelashes lifted and their eyebrows tinted at the same time.

How Long Does an Eyelash Tint Last?

You can expect your lash tint to last for 4-6 weeks. While the dye is permanen your lashes fall out and new un-tinted eyelashes grow back in their place. If you notice your lashes looking lighter after a few weeks, it is time to get them retouched. For the best results, keep the eye area dry for at least 24 hours after your appointment. This will really let the dye set in.

How Much Will You Spend on a Lash Tint?

The cost will depend on where you go and the estheticians experience. Usually, technicians charge anywhere from $20-$40 for a lash tint. As you can see, it is very affordable, but does lash tinting hurt?  Read on to find out!

Does Lash Tinting Hurt?

While it doesn’t hurt, there is a bit of discomfort. It may just be me but anything around my eye area feels strange. There are silicone shields pressed up against your lash line during the treatment, but the whole process is super quick so it’s not too big of a deal.

Is Eyelash Tinting Safe?

When done by a professional, this process is completely safe. Going with a licensed technician ensures you won’t get any dye in your eyes and the tint results will be long-lasting.

What is the Aftercare Process Like?

Your esthetician will go over aftercare with you. However, the main things you want to keep in mind is to avoid touching the treated area. Also, avoid oil based makeup products for 24-48 hours and keep your lashes dry for a full 24 hours. You want to avoid any heat treatments for a day and don’t wear contact lenses for the rest of the day.

Are Lash Tints Worth It?

I 100% think it is. If you have light lashes, you’ll see a dramatic difference. If you have darker lashes, you may not see a super huge difference which is why I recommend getting a lash lift along with the tint. Combining the two offers natural, ready-to-go lashes in the mornings.

This procedure is also amazing for people who want to skip the mascara application in the mornings or for those who hate wearing makeup. A lash tint is a great way to look put together and I highly recommend it.
