Full Review
The BioIonic brand is a truly impressive one, if you’ve not heard of it before. (And – to tell you the whole truth – neither had we before we started reviewing haircare.) To give you a quick low-down: the brand was founded by legendary stylist Fernando Romero, who trained at the Vidal Sassoon salon in Beverly Hills, under the guidance of Sassoon himself. From there, Romero’s work has been featured on worldwide catwalks and magazine covers – before he became founder and CEO of his own brand, BioIonic.
Unique Technology
Within the OnePass Straightening Iron (and all of BioIonic’s styling tools) is several of Romero’s own patented haircare formulas, all aimed at producing a kinder, faster, better hairstyle every time.
Here’s an overview of each unique formula contained in the OnePass flat iron:
- – NanoIonic Mineral Technology: the plates infuse natural negative ions into the hair strand to break down ‘water clusters’ into smaller water molecules. Then, micronized water molecules are able to penetrate each hair quicker and deeper for more intense hydration. Far-infrared energy then straightens hair from the inside-out. (This sounds freaky, but is actually far better for your hair than focusing heat onto the fragile outer layer.)
- – BioCeramic: specially developed ceramic plates heat up to 400° and recover instantly for silky-smooth hair. Ceramic provides an even heat surface for straightening, leaving no heat spots and protecting hair from being blasted with heat damage.
- – Silicon Speed Strips: the outer edge of each plate is hemmed by a ‘speed strip’ made of silicon. The unique strips ensure hair glides through the plates quickly and easily, reducing heat exposure to your hair and straightening it in ‘one pass’! The aim is to dramatically reduce your getting-ready time in the morning – music to every woman’s ears.
Other Features
All this alone would be enough for us to crown the BioIonic OnePass our straightener of choice… But there’s more. The styler allows for precise heat adjustment, meaning YOU control the amount of heat that hits your precious locks. (Our pro tip: turn it down!)
We also award top marks to the look of this straightener. The luxe-looking dark grey of the styler compared with the baby blue plates is a complementary colorway that works wonders.
The curved barrel of BioIonic’s OnePass means curling and waving your hair is no problem at all. The silicon strips aid this function, making it one of the quickest tools for curling on the market. Once finished, simply brush out your curls, spritz with hairspray and dash out to your party.
Because of Romero’s fame in the Beverly Hills salon circles, his products are a staple in American hairdresser’s kits. When buying a BioIonic styling iron, you can be sure your choice is salon quality, at a fraction of other salon tool prices. The five-year warranty that comes with a purchase of a OnePass is also a huge plus. The product seems incredibly durable, but if anything were to go wrong, you can rest assured you could get an easy replacement for free. The length of the warranty tells us that this product is made to last.
Our Verdict
Overall, we absolutely love the BioIonic OnePass. It can be yours for a fair price for a salon-quality styler, though less than some others we’ve tested, and we feel produces exactly the same (if not better) results. For all hair types, the OnePass is a great investment that can be adjusted and reused time after time, whatever look you’re going for.
