Ready to go? Let’s do this!
1. BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium-Plated Ultra-Thin Straightening Iron
- Price: $$$
- 1-inch super slim plate width
- Titanium plated
- Ultra lightweight
- Offers up to 50 heat settings
- Top heat setting 450°F
- US voltage standard (may not be able to use outside US and Canada)
- Thin design makes this model great for straightening AND creating ringlets
- Titanium plates are ultra hot for quick styling
- Has 50 heat settings for all hair types
- May not be good for those with fine hair
- May not be suitable for use outside the US
The Nano Titanium-Plated Ultra-Thin Straightening Iron from BaBylissPRO is a slim, lightweight flat iron perfect for use at home or taking on your travels. This product’s best features are undoubtedly its wide range of precise heat settings, and its ability to transform into a multi-styling tool far beyond simply hair straightening.
This model allows you to set the heat to 50 different settings: a huge range that will help prevent heat damage. Always use the lowest recommended heat for your hair type, especially for those with thin, fine or bleached hair (these types are far more susceptible to become damaged by heat).
Titanium plates mean that the straightener will be lightweight but strong, and conduct heat ferociously well (careful with your fingers!). Titanium is the best choice for you if you have very thick, curly or untameable hair, and the high temperatures it conducts will also help. It’s only the addition of the 50 heat settings that mean we can recommend this straightener to those with finer hair as well: be careful to choose a low setting, or risk frying your hair!
The 1-inch plate and narrow barrel makes this a brilliant tool for curling as well as straightening. Simply curl your hair around the barrel as you glide it down the hair, to produce bouncy ringlets.
At $139.95, this is a more pricey choice of flat iron, but for the addition of very precise temperature controls and smoothing titanium plates, you’re paying for quality.
2. Karmin G3 Salon Professional Ceramic Flat Iron
- Price: $$$
- Salon professional flat iron
- Tourmaline-coated ceramic plates
- Plates reach full heat in 30 seconds
- 3 year warranty
- Comes with free heat mat and carry case
- Dual voltage, can be used outside the US
- Can use as a multi-styling tool for straightening, curling and adding volume
- Tourmaline plates feature anti-frizz ionic technology
- Reaches heats of up to 410°F
- Slightly pricey
The Karmin G3 Salon Professional Ceramic Flat Iron features an advanced tourmaline coating and anti-frizz technology, making it a safe bet for sleek styling. The brand say that this straightener is perfect for creating diverse styles, and we agree! It’s super easy to use to achieve bouncy waves, curls, add volume to lacklustre hair and to iron your hair poker-straight.
The tourmaline coating on ceramic plates is made of crushed up crystals ground into a fine dust – fancy. The effect is preventing frizz with embedded ionic technology, which neutralizes the positive charge on hair from intense brushing and everyday styling – definitely a feature worth paying good cash for.
The 1” plates are excellent for achieving intricate and precise styles, so that you don’t have a hair out of place; but may not be so great for trying to get your hair done in a hurry. This minor quibble is offset by the sleek barrel which allows you to easily curl your hair around it and volumize your locks.
The plates heat up in 30 seconds to a sizzling top heat of 410°F – fine-haired guys and girls should use a much lower heat to avoid permanent damage. And, as we all know, we should ALL be using a high-quality heat protection product! Never scrimp when it comes to your hair. It’s your crowning glory, and to keep it that way, all it takes is to invest in products that really work and will function exactly as they did out-the-box for years to come.
That’s why we recommend the Karmin G3 flat iron! It functions amazingly, and its other consumer reviews are resoundingly positive about its durability and usability. See our HHBeauty full review below!
3. Izutech Ktx 450 Titanium Digital Flat Iron
- Price: $$$
- Dual heat sensors for temperature regulation
- Ionic technology
- Heats fully within 30 seconds
- Universal voltage – great for travel
- Ceramic heater
- State of the art technology
- Quick and easy results
- Built-in keratin treatment
- Limited temperature control
The Ktx 450 Titanium Digital Flat Iron from Izutech features loads of great positive points we love in flat irons, but is let down very slightly by a lack of precise temperature controls.
Firstly, the brand uses keratin treatments in all their products, which smooths the hair without breaking any protein bonds. This prevents horrible heat damage that can make your hair brittle, broken and crispy; and instead leaves it healthy and bouncy for longer. The straightener’s ceramic plates also contain ionic technology to replace lost negative ions in hair and neutralize frizz and static. The result is healthy, volumized straight hair, without looking flat and dry.
Another big thumbs-up for this product is its universal voltage. Lots of other electrical products can’t be used outside of the country they are produced in, due to differences in electrical outputs. That’s not the case for this Izutech model. You can easily take it on vacation without worrying that it’s going to short-circuit on you.
The limited temperature controls are the only downside here. If you have wild locks that require a lot of heat to tame, then this model is great for you! If your hair is already fairly straight, thin or easily damaged, then you may want to choose a different model, as very high temperatures are not the best option for your hair type. (Luckily, here at HHBeauty we’ve got dozens of reviews to help you find your perfect hairstyler!)

4. BIO IONIC OnePass Straightening Iron
- Price: $$$
- Patented silicon ‘speed strips’ for quick, easy straightening
- Unique NanoIonic Mineral Technology
- Far-infrared and ionic technology
- Designed to straighten hair in one stroke
- BioCeramic heaters
- Precision heat controls
- Ergonomic design
- Chosen by stylists
- 5 year warranty
BioIonic’s brand slogan is ‘beauty powered by nature’: and they have become renowned by using the most advanced natural technology in their luxury haircare products. The company, founded by beauty industry icon and professional stylist Fernando Romero, developed their own ‘NanoIonic Mineral Technology’ after Fernando discovered the benefits of harnessing negative ions for hair-styling while traveling Japan.
As a result, all of Fernando’s styling tools have been infused with their unique blend of NanoIons and minerals, that acts to hydrate hair from the inside-out. Water molecules penetrate the hair strands right down to the cuticle, leaving hair soft, supple and full of life. Their OnePass Straightening Iron is no exception to this technology; so although it retails for a premium price, you get a premium product that truly cares for your hair.
The stylish black iron with baby blue BioCeramic heaters and plates ensures heat is evenly distributed along the hair at optimum temperature, so that straightening each lock takes only one pass. This further protects hair from nasty heat damage, as it’s only exposed to intense heat once each time you use your flat iron.
The product also features the brand’s patented silicon speed strips, quickening up the straightening process so that you can leave the house with beautiful hair in double-quick time. Of course, you can use this product as a curler as well as a straightener.
Another sign that this product is of true luxury and used by real salon professionals is its 9ft swivel cord – this reaches long distances, perfect for salon use!
Although it’s dearly priced, we believe this straightener is an assured luxury product and worth every penny. Read our full review below, or click the button to purchase now.
5. GHD 1″ IV Styler Ceramic Styling Iron Set
- Price: $$$
- Ceramic plates
- Ionic technology
- Infrared heat
- Worldwide voltage for use all over the globe
- Endorsed by the world’s top salon professionals
- Kind to hair
- Curved barrel for multi-styling
- Safety feature – automatic shut-off when not used for 30 minutes
- Contains sensors which calculate hair porosity, emitting the right amount of heat for your hair type
- Very expensive
- This product cannot be shipped internationally (although other GHD products can be bought worldwide)
This multi-award-winning product from global megabrand GHD features some top-range specs, which should of course be expected from a flat iron of this price! The GHD 1″ IV Styler Ceramic Styling Iron is a narrow-plated iron which can be used to achieve multiple styles, and has the added advantage of sensors which shut down the product when it’s not in use. No more worrying about leaving your straighteners plugged in once you’ve left the house!
The price here will scare off many customers; although we all know by now that paying top-dollar is worth it for quality. While we do believe GHD produces amazing, salon-quality, reliable products, we also feel that there are other less expensive models out there that achieve the same effects. Check out our other reviews on the HHBeauty website to find similar, high-quality products that are kinder on your bank balance.
This product contains ceramic heaters, which protect hair and conduct heat evenly, which is much kinder on your hair than other harsher metals often used in flat iron products. It also features astoundingly fancy hair porosity sensors: this means the product KNOWS your hair type and sets its heat accordingly. This is amazing for those with hard-to-straighten hair, like people with Afro and very curly locks, but if you have easier to manage hair, then you can probably go for a product that uses less heat and is less harsh. (I have fine hair myself and have been advised by hairdressers in the past to avoid GHD because of their use of high heat.)
Overall, this is a very impressive luxury product that is amazing for people with stubborn hair styles looking for the smoothest straighten that money can buy. However, if you’re looking for a casual straightener with basic functions, you can easily get away with spending at least $200 less on your styling tools.
Our flat iron straightener reviews go in-depth in all you’d ever need to know about choosing a product. We explain what it means for a product to feature ceramic plates; what exactly ionic technology does; and how far-infrared technology works. We recommend styling tools for girls with wild curls who straighten every day; and those with soft waves who like the poker-straight look every now and then.
Our guides will show you which iron is best for achieving multiple styling techniques, and those that are top of their range just for simple straightening. We show you how to get the best straightening tech for your money, whether your budget is $30 or $300. We feature the biggest brands and compare them to those you’ve never heard of (but should!).
These are only a few things you should bear in mind when choosing a styling product to purchase. No matter what brand, model, or material you go for – our #1 top tip is to ALWAYS use a heat protection spray or cream on your hair before using heat! No matter what fancy coating is added to the plates that promises the utmost heat protection, remember that your skin would be scarred if you applied the same heat to it. The same goes for your hair, and you should protect it as best you can when you curl it for a weekend party.
Here’s our hot tips to know before buying:
- Ceramic is best for fine/thin/damaged/dyed hair
- Titanium is great for people with Afro/curly/thick hair
- Sleek metal outer design makes straighteners great for use as a curler as well
- Ionic technology prevents static and frizz
- Infrared technology protects delicate outer layer of hair
- ‘Coating’ on product plates is likely to come off/stop working over time
- Best straighteners have advanced heat control settings (so you can set it to a low temperature and prevent heat damage)
